Concept of 'Distance Learning'

The concept of distance learning was adopted in India to give access to education to those who could not pursue a regular course due to some constraints. e.g. left out regular education for different reasons including financial but have the urge to study. There is no age limit or requisite qualification to join distance learning. The certificates issued by the recognised Universities or Open Schools are accepted by all the universities for admission to higher education.

Students and Learners:

Some of these courses are having contact classes in study centers enlisted by concerned open Universities and evaluation of tasks are done regularly. While you call a person 'student' who under goes a regular course, they call him a 'learner' in open school.

There is no age to learn, regular schools and colleges do not allow students after certain age to study, open universities is open to all to join and develop knowledge.

Recognition:

All the courses of IGNOU and other Open Universities under UGC, are recognised and any one who acquired certificate/Diploma is eligible to apply for any post in the Government.

Governments role:

Our government can not afford regular courses to all the aspirants of this country of 110 crore population. So it is wise to join correspondence courses of recognised universities as a second choice to continue study.There should not be any feeling to condemn distance learning.

Special features of Distance learning:

This is the age of technology and teaching and interaction between pupil are no more confined in classrooms these days.

If you are not aware of 'virtual classrooms', please note that now a teacher can takes classes being in a different country and the students maybe scattered throughout the world and can interact to each of them through online classes.

There are many teachers in India who takes personal classes to his students in America. It is happening guys. That is the achievement technology has brought to us together.Information technology has broken the barriers of teaching methodology all over the world, only we should be ready to accept it.

A student who achieved certificates through distance learning could be more capable than a person who obtained it by going to traditional institutions. I accept that there are still many constraints, e.g. it is difficult to make a surgeon online as doing practical anatomy classes online is difficult but all the theoretical classes can be taken and being done world wide to teach millions of students.

Conclusion:

Distance learning is going to be the first choice in future as it gives you opportunity to learn when you can and without any bindings to be confined in an institution, where you spoil a major part of your precious time being involved in different activities other than only learning the subjects for which you take admission.
